Global Entry Fee Increase and What It Can Mean For Those Applying

Frequent international travelers know the benefits of Global Entry—quick, hassle-free reentry into the United States. Now, it’s going to cost a little more to enjoy those perks.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has announced that the application fee for Global Entry is set to increase, from $100 to $120. Here’s what you need to know about the fee increase and why it still might be worth the investment.

Currently, the application fee for Global Entry is $100 for a five-year membership. However, CBP has announced that this fee will rise to $120 starting October 2024. Applicants under 18 will be exempt from an application fee if a parent or legal guardian is already a member of the program or applying themselves.

CBP explained that the increased fee is essential for maintaining and expanding the program, covering costs for technology, support, and managing demand as international travel continues to grow post-pandemic. While a $20 increase might not seem huge, it could impact families or frequent travelers needing multiple renewals.

Despite the increase, Global Entry remains a smart investment.

At $120 for five years, the cost is only $24 per year for quicker customs clearance and TSA PreCheck—still a great deal for frequent travelers. Plus, many credit cards offer reimbursement for Global Entry fees, offsetting the added expense.

The application process involves submitting your details online, scheduling an in-person interview, and awaiting final approval.

Renewals can be done up to a year before expiration, and many members won’t need a second interview. While the fee increase is a downside, Global Entry remains one of the most valuable programs for those looking to save time and travel stress-free.
